We’ve been contacted by a few people in the past few days asking if we’d be doing a lighting workshop at WPPI. Our answer for the first two people was a quick no, but after the third we started to reconsider.

We are giving a 4-hour outdoor on-location lighting workshop for Sunday afternoon (the 7th) from 1:30pm to 5:30pm. We’ll have 2 models and you’ll each get to photograph each lighting setup, so yes, bring your cameras.

We’ve made the price an absolute no-brainer $75 (so we don’t take away too much of your gambling funds). We’re only taking 20 people max, so seats may sell out. Book now to reserve yours.

The workshop will cover:
- the perfect headshot
- shooting headshots/portraits with natural light
- small flash off-camera dramatic lighting
- small flash off-camera fill lighting

We’ll obviously be in an urban setting and will do a number of fashion-style shots. We’ll also explain the reasoning behind each light placement choice and camera setting, so you’ll be able to not only replicate the scenes but use the knowledge to create your own.

Special workflow and editing add-on $45 :

I might be interested. May I ask if there is a start time already established?

Thanks!

Hi Joel!

Wow I totally forgot to post it! We’ll likely start at 1pm unless there is overwhelming desire to start later than that.

A 1pm start will finish right before the sun sets and will give people time to fly in in the morning, check into their hotel, come meet us… but will also be done early enough to go out and have fun.

Hi Paul!

That’s great! You can purchase your ticket at any time. If we get at least 10 bookings (which it does now look like we might) then it’s going to happen as planned above.

Details on location will follow soon.

I hope to see you then!

Vu,

I think 1PM is PERFECT! People are gonna want to go home afterwards, rest (or gamble), and get ready for the WPPI Opening Reception! Maybe 2PM at the latest, but 1PM is ideal!
Thank you

Yeah, 1pm is pretty much what we are settled on. But feel free to make suggestions.

Hi Lacy, You’re actually not the only person to ask us if we can do it at 2pm. Since we already have some signups I asked them if they mind the change, but they get first choice since they already bought their seats for 1pm.

Even if you have to be a little late, though, it might still be worth it for you! :)

A few minutes will not be a problem!

I’ll be sending out an email to the attendees with our cell numbers so that if we get separated or anything you’ll be able to call us and find out where we are.

See you soon!

Keep me posted too and I will sign up when I can.
Thank you!

Hi Emily, we’re on for sure now, and since half of the people wanted to start at 1pm and the other half at 2pm, we’ve decided to start at 1:30pm… that way the ones getting out of their master class at 1pm can make it and the ones that have dinner plans will still make those.

See you at WPPI!

Oh and Emily, don’t worry about having to leave early… the way it will work you won’t miss out on any big secret, just probably the last lighting setup. And we’ll do our best NOT to save the best for last. :)

22 vubui February 18, 2010 at 8:10 am

Hi Feuza, yes there will be models!

We will most likely have 2 models so we can split the class up and everyone will be able to shoot each setup more quickly.

Yeah that WOULD be pretty hilarious… but I’m not sure it would be USEFUL. ;)

36 Christine February 20, 2010 at 9:19 pm

Sure it would be useful! A white Elvis outfit, almost bride-like for those of us that are wedding photographers!
