Behind the Scenes with Veronica Belmont’s photo shoot

by Lan Bui on May 25, 2009

Here it is!!! The long awaited behind the scenes video from Veronica Belmont’s photo shoot with The Bui Brothers.

We could not have done this without the help of the following wonderful people:
Veronica Belmont – Awesome Girl
Schlomo Rabinowitz and House of Shields bar – Killer location
Carlie Renee – Makeup and Style
Paul Dateh and Ken Belcher – Original Music

Note on the music: Paul Dateh and Ken Belcher made the original soundtrack for this video. Yes… they scored a video blog video. Pure awesome. (Oh… and Paul is giving away his album a song at a time).

Tech note: The video was shot entirely on a Canon 5D mark II and a Nikon D90. The 3D titles were done in Photoshop and Motion 3. The video was edited in iMovie (yes, iMovie is good).

Lastly, here is one more photo from the photo shoot:

Great video, and Veronica looks amazing.

What kind of ringlight was that? It’s gargantuan!

@Doug Luberts, That’s the Alien Bees ABR800. It’s affordable, does an extremely good job and has lots of accessories so you can do a lot of different stuff with it.

The one downside is that it’s a little big… but we’re used to it so it doesn’t occur to us anymore.

@vubui, Thx. It looks like another item to add to my Alien Bees to-buy list. I really like there stuff.

Thanks for posting behind the scenes video. As a photo enthusiast, I always love seeing the behind the scenes footage of a photo shoot.

@Bim, I’m very glad you enjoyed it. I remember I would always wish photographers would make behind the scenes videos just to see what it was like during their shoots. That is a pretty big reason why we post a video for (almost) all of our shoots.

We love to share!

Excellent video – great to see the creative process at work.

The video was done with a 5D ? Damn, I want me one of those.

@Jon Biddell, Thanks! The video was shot on both the Canon 5D mark II and the Nikon D90. Both excellent DSLRs with video.

@Tim Street, Thanks for the suggestion Tim!

I didn’t do that in this video because I assumed everyone already saw all of the photos… if anyone has not please check them out here:

I rarely stop or make/have time to watch videos these days… But I always take the time and give my undivided attention to what you guys do.

Another fan-freakin-tastic video that made me feel like I was there.

i think the intro and outro music is from Switchfoot’s “C’mon C’mon.” If you are going to credit Paul Dateh and Ken Belcher, you should include Switchfoot too. =)

Hello switchfootfan, the song we use for our intro and outro is actually Pendulum… a royalty free song included with Apple Soundtrack.

Being royalty free, it’s most likely that Switchfoot used the riff from it, and not the other way around.

We ALWAYS credit where credit is due and wouldn’t use copyrighted material anyway… credit or not.

Thank you for the heads up, but in this case you’re mistaken.

@switchfootfan, Thanks for trying to contribute to the conversation.

The song used in our video intro and outro is called Pendulum and is used royalty free from Apple (it either comes with garageband or soundtrack).

So it seems that Switchfoot either sold it to Apple or is also using it from Apple. Either way, we are using it properly within it’s license.

We do not use music we do not have proper licensing to. Your suggestion of crediting them would still not put us within legal licensing rights to the music. Unless they have that song released under a license that allows for that, but from the video you posted it does not seem that way.

thanks for the explanation. i was worried about that. i had googled around to see if they were covering a song, but i missed that one. thanks!

Yes it was a dart… I’m not sure Carlie would recommend doing that to anyone though…
