Kabloom Studios Photographer’s Promo

by vubui on April 21, 2009

Khara Plicanic of Kabloom Studios contacted us about shooting a promo video for her some time last summer, starting the conversation… of course… via Twitter DM. Remember when you had to actually pick up a phone or even drive down to their shop to hire someone for something? Anyhow… she is super cool and fun and radiates positive energy… and over a few bunches of 140 characters or less I took an instant liking to her and was extremely excited to shoot her video.

This is definitely our favorite production yet, and showcases some of the things we love about doing promotional videos. We believe in letting others speak for you, because honestly it’s easy for most people to speak highly of themselves… but getting others to come forth and give an honest testimonial about how awesome you are… well that really speaks to your effect on your clients.

I’ll let the video say the rest of what needs to be said. Khara is awesome… and hopefully our contribution to her online presence helps to show that to the world.

@Gustavo, She is awesome, we met face to face for the first time at WPPI in the hallways while I was running around like a crazy person; we clicked right away.

Too much talking. Got bored in about 5 seconds.

@Bob, I’m sorry you feel that way. Maybe next time you will have the balls to leave your real name, email and website???

@”Bob” (anonymous) – I’m all for criticism… but if you’re going to give it you might want to start by standing behind your words and posting your real identity. Anyone can trash others’ work while hiding behind the anonymity of the internet, but it also gives your words no weight or meaning.

Also, I have to admit it’s hard to take your comment seriously as-is… are you suggesting that there should only have been about 4 seconds of talking?

Hope to hear from the “real” you.

You are becoming the steadi-cam master. LOVE the movement and focus/out-of-focus effects. And also really like the simplicity of their “names in space” in the beginning. Works well with the energy and vide of the shot.

I’m not sure whether I want the BB’s to shoot my promo vid or have Kabloom Studios/Khara shoot me and my mistress wife rocking it like we’re hot. Nice work at any rate!

Oh my, the Bui Bros are like the handsomest, and they rock the video camera. Also love the flying fonts or whatever you call it….I just call it, sexy flying font.

Love the video! Is there a name to the effect that you guys use where you make a still image seem 3D and make it come to life?

@Chris Wanamaker, thanks for the praise, man! I’m not actually sure if there is an official name for it. We call it “motion photos”, but I don’t know if anyone else uses that term at all.

IzzyVideo.com calls it “2.5 D” as in not quite 3D.

One can also call it a hybrid photo video montage… whatever we call it I think it is pretty cool.

That is a gorgeous look and feel in the footage – very filmesque and really enjoyed the diversity of the media selected. LOVE the motion and out of focus shots and the depth of field selected as well. Totally agree with you on having other folks tell your story – great way to promo someone. Stellar job.

You guys rock. Looking forward to seeing you all at VMX09….LG

Holy Crap!!! I totally missed the “motion photos” when I watched this the first time.

I just synced my iPhone and this video showed up and I watched it again and noticed the 2-3 motion photos.

In addition to the great shooting, editing, music, and steadi-cam work, those subtle motion photos takes your work to a whole new level…

I feel sooooo talent-less when I watch your stuff… Thanks a lot!!!
