Veronica Belmont Photoshoot

by Lan Bui on January 11, 2009

Veronica Belmont

Last month Vu, Carlie and I went to San Francisco to shoot a few peoples photographs. You may have seen Neha Tiwari’s or Sarah Lane’s floating around; but we had two more photo shoots while we were there… Schlomo Rabinowitz and Veronica Belmont. You are going to have to wait a bit more to see Schlomo’s, but here are new photos of Veronica Belmont for you to view.
.
Veronica and I had talked last year, when I did some headshots of her, about doing a photo shoot for her that was a little different than the stuff you normally see of her. “Veronica Belmont photos” you would see around were mostly snapshots of her at conferences, isight self portraits and the headhsots I took last year. We wanted to do something captivating and show off how beautiful Veronica is.
.
Vu and I talked about the photoshoot and decided we wanted to go above and beyond our previous shoots with her. We reached out to our good friend Carlie Renee to be our stylist for the photo shoot. Carlie was amazing. She did Veronica’s hair and makeup (wait until you see the behind the scenes video, fun stuff) and did the wardrobe styling, as well as some posing.
.

We have so much video footage from behind the scenes of Veronica’s photo shoot that we want to share with you but we have not finished editing it yet. If you would like to be notified immediately when the videos are available please sign up for our Newsletter below:

Some of the videos that we are making from the shoot show some fun behind the scenes stuff, we also will be talking a lot about how we used the new Canon 5D Mark II and Nikon D90 to get all of the images as well as the behind the scenes video.

@Mitch, Well all we did was pair her with a great stylist and take her photo, so all we can really claim is lighting the photos.

Whoa!

They must have scheduled Veronica and Zadi Diaz at the same local. These are even better than the first go-around.

Reply

10 Lan Bui January 25, 2009 at 5:53 pm

@Dan Klimke, Actually the locations are pretty far apart. Veronica was shot is San Francisco and Zadi was in Venice Beach, although we do like the brick walls.

@Jesse Dylan Watson, THanks!

Why does _everyone_ have to be shot up against old brick wall? That has so been done already.

But other than that, v. nice. :)

@Gil, To answer your question… because it looks great.

Stunning pictures. Really love the colors in the portrait shot against the brick wall. Also really dig what a great model Veronica seems to be. I bet the shoot was great fun. Any chance we can see a follow-up post with some strobe-ist tips?

Great work! Great Subject!
I like the use of different lighting – both spot and natural in the shoot.
Just got my D90 and am loving it. Great tool to do the work. Thanks for sharing your work.
Cheers from Oz.

I can read my own typing here in the box. All the other text is either too small a font or to dark against an already dark background. The font I am typing in now is too small as it is. And I have 20/18 vision! And no it is NOT a good idea to assume that thee are enough Firefox 3 users out there that can use the Ctrl-Wheel combo to make the font bigger – that’s your web designer’s job!

A PLUS for the fotos, guys, but EPIC FAIL on the website and blog here. You also need to find a way to get your videos “dumbed down” in bitrate, as contrary to popular belief, there is still a lot of dark fiber out there.

I like the web-site. The font size is fine to me. (Then again, I didn’t do 1920×1200 on a 14″ screen as some do.) The videos seem to play well for me, even when tethering on my cell phone.

The other nice thing of using Firefox? It has a spell checker. I’m just sayin’

Hey Lan (and Vu),
Great job guys…I’m really digging your work. The pictures are great! and the video is clean as can be and well cut.
Found this while researching the 5d:

Want to learn how to shoot HD video from the first U.S. photographer to create a commercial with the EOS 5D Mark II? On May 30-31 in New York City and June 20-21 in Los Angeles, Vincent Laforet will guide a small group of participants through each integral part of the HD video production process. You’ll learn core skills ranging from producing, directing, and lighting, to camera operation and editing. You’ll shoot in the morning and, during the afternoon, follow along as the work is edited, coming away with more than enough skills to create your own HD video masterpiece.
